Comment by Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD on November 21, 2011 at 12:20am Children do not need to be advised of sex crimes or 'dirty old men.' Children need to be taught Good Body Image, Appropriate Touch and three other key skills. Parents need to be taught to stop violating children's body boundaries in the guise of parental rights and how to teach children the skills to thwart would-be sex offenders. Children's right to protection from all harm needs to be the first order of rights. Sex offenders single out children whose body boundaries have been violated by their parents, care takers and person's in authority. Children whose body boundaries were violated are easily intimidated into compliance and silence. Children whose body boundaries were violated project a demeanor that sex offenders recognize. Children whose body boundaries weren't violated are seldom targeted by sex offenders and if they are the child's reaction of insult will put the sex offender on notice - I am not an easy target. 80% of children who are sexually abused are abused by someone in the family. 19% of children who are sexually abused are abused by someone the child knows and trusts and 1% of children who are sexually abused are abused by a stranger. Unfortunately until recently the stranger sex offender was the most frequently reported case. Thus, society mistakenly believed informing children of 'stranger danger,' would ward off the majority of sex offenders. However, since the priest sex offenders took center stage a few years ago, the media has been more diligent about reporting the 19% of sex offenders. It is still rare the media reports the largest segment of sex offenders - family members. "If I'd Only Known...Sexual Abuse In or Out of The Family: A Guide to Prevention," can be ordered at http://drdorothy.net

Thanks for posting this Dorothy and this is something that we as parents need to be mindful of because sex crimes are run rampant in the Western world and it's spreading rapidly throughout Foreign Countries as well. We have to protect our Children by whatever means necessary and you're right, they're our most precious gifts! My Children are all grown now but I teach my Grand Children about these crimes, the same as I taught my children.
I visited both of your Websites Dorothy and I read some truly enlightening information. I will continue to read the informative info on those Sites because there are some things there that I didn't know about. I also found these statistics online, of Rape victims over all (men & women) and I wanted to share it with everyone. I don't have statistics on Children yet but the info that I did find for rape victims as a whole, were astounding and most of us do not know this!
A United Nations statistical report compiled from government sources showed that more than 250,000 cases of male-female rape or attempted rape were recorded by police annually. The reported data covered 65 countries.[2]
According to the American Medical Association (1995), sexual violence, and rape in particular, is considered the most under-reported violent crime.[4][5]
The most common reasons given by victims for not reporting rapes are the belief that it is a personal or private matter, and that they fear reprisal from the assailant. A 2007 government report in England says "Estimates from research suggest that between 75 and 95 per cent of rape crimes are never reported to the police."[6]
Dorothy, I will be purchasing those Books real soon and thanks for all of this wealth of information!
Comment by Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD on November 20, 2011 at 10:49pm "It is relatively easy for adults to protect themselves from harm compared to protecting our children from sexual abuse. As a self-defense instructor, I encourage every adult to read, 'If Only I'd Known...Sexual Abuse In or Out of The Family: A Guide to Prevention,'by Dorothy M Neddermeyer, PhD. In any defense strategy, understanding the mindset of the opponent is paramount. Dr Neddermeyer understands and offers a detailed description of the mindset and intent of the sex offender when committing this crime. Without judging them, Dr Neddermeyer emphasizes the need to understand their mindset and intent as an important step in protecting your child. Dr Neddermeyer outlines seven sound, parent approved and child tested prevention measures to protect your most precious gift, your child. Thanks for sharing this vital information! Even though we have our freedom here in the States, we still have to be extremely careful! Most of us take so much for granted and we always think that bad things cannot happen to us until it actually happens and we must keep our guards up at all times because unfortunately, a lot of us fall victim to these horrendous Crimes of kidnapping and being attacked by strangers. (and sometimes people we know) There's a lot of great information here and I advise everyone, especially Women to read all of this info because most of the time, Women are vulnerable and we are their main targets. It's better to be safe than sorry, and always check out your surroundings at all times. I will be investing in some Pepper Spray and looking into some of your other Products as well. Congratulations on being featured!
